For everyone that wishes to enjoy a wide range of Community Events, Skagway has it all. Throughout the year our small community (population 1036 in 2014 census estimate) puts on a host of events with the help of many Skagway volunteers!

Klondike International Road Relay – September 9 & 10  2016
This 110 mile relay race begins in Skagway, Alaska  on Friday evening and continues all night along the Klondike Highway.  It ends in Whitehorse, Yukon on Saturday afternoon. Teams of 10 members from all over the world compete in this event. (The road is open to regular traffic)

Join us for a weekend celebrating Arts, Music and life in the North. This year’s highlights include free canning classes taught by UAF Cooperative Extension, Yoga & Spinning classes at the Skagway Recreation Center and more!

Yuletide 

The fun kicks off with the Tree lighting at 5th and Broadway. Enjoy open houses at many downtown businesses and visitor centers.  The Kids Carnival, Craft Bazaar, free Santa Train, Yuletide Ball and other activities will fill you with holiday cheer. From dancing to shopping or just walking around an old gold rush town, Yuletide is a fun time for locals and visitors alike.

11 am – Santa Train! White Pass & Yukon Route Train Depot (2nd & Broadway)

Greet Santa as he arrives on the  Train. Train leaves the station for round trip to Clifton at 11:30 am.

Buckwheat Ski Classic  – Saturday, March 25, 2017

This annual International Cross Country Ski Race happens on Saturday at Log Cabin in British Columbia. Join hundreds of skiers from around the globe on a variety of ski length races through the snowy woods. Breakfast and dinner included in price of entry.

Spring Show of Winter Art Work – April 14 & 15, 2017

Answering the question “What do you do in the winter”, the Skagway Arts Council presents a wonderful collection of artwork created by Skagway Residents. The show is at the AB Hall on Broadway & 2nd Avenues. It is free to the public. Donations are welcome.

Eighth Annual North Words Writers Symposium  – date TBA

Three days of discussions, readings & writing. Join our Keynote Speaker & Alaskan Faculty with up to 50 participants. Registration includes train ride & trail write, Dyea cabin retreat cookout & music, historic brothel tour, Keynote banquet & some meals.

22nd Annual Fran DeLisle Cancer Awareness Walkathon – Saturday June  3, 2017
This beautiful walk follows the Dyea road along the scenic Taiya Inlet, through spruce forest to historic downtown Skagway. Volunteer staffed stations provide aid and treats along the way.  There is also a half walk, starting in Long Bay. $20 entry  fee includes shirt and lunch.

All money raised by the walk provides cancer screenings and aid to Skagway residents diagnosed with cancer.

Sponsored by the Skagway Eagles Auxillary #25 and the Emblem Club.

Duff’s Skagway Marathon – date TBA
Known far and wide as one of the hardest – and most rewarding – marathons in North America,  the Skagway Marathon leaves Skagway and runs up the Dyea road to West Creek and back, a distance of 26 miles. There is also a half marathon and walking marathon up the Dyea Road and back – 13 miles.
Sponsored by the Municipality of Skagway Convention and Visitors Bureau and Duffs Backcountry Outfitters.

Little Dippers Annual Wine Tasting Event – date TBA

Fundraiser for Little Dipper’s Daycare. Live & Silent Auction – Children’s Art Auction. Live Music. Catered by Jewell Gardens. Entry fee. Must be 21 to attend. SMART Bus Shuttle available.
